Google really, really wants you to use its social network, and if the ability to automatically back up photos from a mobile device isn't enough incentive, maybe doing the same from the desktop will entice you?
TechCrunch reported Tuesday that an unspecified number of Google+ users are being offered the chance to download Mac or PC software that enables Auto Backup from their desktop computers.
Auto Backup isn't exactly new -- Google has been trying to woo mobile users onto Google+ for some time now with the promise of automatically saving their precious digital photo and video memories to the cloud.
While Google recently enabled the ability to perform high-resolution backups from mobile devices and the search giant's Picasa already offers the same on the desktop, the new software is a background app that simply sucks all of your images -- even the ones from mounted SD cards -- into the Google cloud.
To see if you're one of the lucky ones, click into the Photos section of your Google+ account and look for an "Upload photos" pop-up.
"Automatically save your photos and videos online with Google+ Auto Backup," the prompt teases. "They'll be private to you until you choose to share them, and easy to get to from all your devices."
Should you see a pop-up like the one above, be sure to act upon it quickly -- we dismissed ours and have yet to see it rear its little head again, so it seems for now to be a one-time offer.
